Diarrhea is an increased frequency and decreased consistency of fecal discharge as compared with individual normal bowel pattern.

Acute watery diarrhoea...

It is often a symptom of systemic disease.
Acute diarrhoea is commonly defined shorter than 14 days duration, persistent diarrhoea as a longer than for 14 days duration.
Chronic diarrhea is longer than 30 days in duration.
In most cases, acute diarrhoea caused by infection with the virus, bacteria, or protozoa and are generally self-limited.

Sign and symptom:-

  • Nausea,
  •  vomiting, 
  • abdominal pain, 
  • headache, 
  • fever, 
  • chill, and 
  • malaise.
  • Bowel movement is frequently

First note the pulse, BP, and degree of dehydration.

A) IF BP is normal and dehydration is mild


1) Dietary advice:-

  • Advisor plenty of water,
  • Black tea.
  • Ganji, buttermilk
  • Coconut water, banana.
  • As loose motion decrease advisor soft diet, Idali, soft rice, Ganji, fruit, etc.

2) To reduce the frequency of stool

  • Tab. Lopamide 2 mg 2stat, then 1 tab after each stool
  • Cap. Redotil 100 mg - tds

3) To treat the infection

  • Give one intestinal antibiotic and systemic antibiotics.

B) If BP has fallen or dehydration severe 

  • Start IV drip RL or DNS with large needle 18 or 20 push it fast up to 2 to 15 bottle. Depending on. Degree of dehydration.
  • Inj. Mephentin 2 cc IV - If BP below 80mm.
  • Inj. Decadron 2 cc IV 

Do not give  5 % dextrose in dehydration.


Go to the hospital in serious condition❗❗❗
